Permanent Cricket Pitch Inauguration Ceremony, Kreuzzelg, Wettingen, 3rd July 2022

A cricket ground with a permanent pitch and the possibility to bowl from both ends of the wicket is a rarity in Switzerland and often a unrealized long-held dream. Such a dream of local cricket enthusiasts came true with the laying of the permanent cricket pitch (non-turf wicket with artificial grass) at Kreuzzelg, Wettingen, which was officially inaugurated on 3rd July 2022 by Mr Philippe Rey, Geminderat Wettingen.

The 38m long three-layer pitch was laid on a hard porous aggregate base and provides consistent pace and bounce. This pitch is the first of its kind in the canton of Aargau and the project was executed as part of Cricket Club Wettingen’s long-term vision for the development and growth of Cricket in Switzerland.

Cricket Club Wettingen is very proud to have placed Kreuzzelg on the cricketing map of Switzerland and now looking forward to hosting league matches of Cricket Switzerland in this beautiful venue on the permanent pitch.

This permanent pitch project was initiated and conceived by Cricket Club Wettingen in 2020. The project was proposed to Gemeinde Wettingen by Cricket Club Wettingen in September 2021, which swiftly approved the project in December 2021 as an early Christmas gift.  This project would not have been possible without the excellent support and collaboration of Geminde Wettingen, Sportsauschuss Wettingen, Turn- und Sportvereinigung Wettingen  (TSVW) and Bauamt Wettingen. Our construction partner Aarvia delivered an excellent project despite executing a cricket pitch project for the first time.

Cricket Club Wettingen expresses its heartfelt thanks to all of them, our sponsors and the members of the club who stood by us and supported us in realizing this dream.

Thank you,

Cricket Club Wettingen
